Elsie was born in Manitou on June 6, 1914. She lived in Manitou until she married Helgi Helgason and together they farmed in the 1-6 area south of Morden until 1972 when they moved to the town of Morden. Elsie was predeceased by her mother and father, Roxa and William Speirs; husband Helgi in 1990; and brother Vernon (Pete) Speirs in 2000. She will be sadly missed by nephew Greg (Connie) Speirs; niece Gloria (George) Keen; cousins, relatives; and many friends too numerous to mention. Elsie touched the lives of many people. She could always be counted on to provide a helping hand, an ear to listen, share a laugh, beat you at a game of cards, or just be a good friend. Elsie liked animals and had a special passion for cats. Through the years the hobbies she had enjoyed included; curling, fishing, socializing at the friendship centre and needlework. She had a special talent for crocheting and her fine work was admired by many. She could often be found in her chair knitting mitts for someone, the church, or just a needy cause. A special thank you is extended to the people that helped Elsie in her later years. Thanks is extended to the homecare team, neighbour Russell, the Brooks, and all others who contributed to Elsies quality of life. With respect to Elsies wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held Friday, May 24.
