Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN SOLOMON (nee OGRYZLO) Peacefully, in Ottawa, on May 16, 2002, Jean (Jennie) Solomon, beloved wife of the late Justice John R. Solomon; cherished mother of Joan of Toronto, Pat (David Elder) and Holly (Steven Shrybman) of Ottawa; dear grandmother of Ellen and Clare Shrybman. She is also survived by her sister, Holly Burgess of Winnipeg. Born in Sifton, MB on June 28, 1909, Jennie graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and began a teaching career in East Selkirk, MB at Happy Thought School, receiving in 1939, a Provincial Certificate qualifying her as a Principal for a two room high school. In 1941 she married John Solomon and left education to devote herself to raising her daughters and supporting her husband in his political career as an MLA of Manitoba, his legal career as a lawyer and, later, Judge of the County Court and Queens Bench, and his many public service endeavours. Together with her husband, she was very involved in the activities of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and was especially happy teaching at the Cathedral Sunday School for many years. Jean is predeceased by her sister, Olga; and brothers, Steve, Metro and Laurence Ogryzlo. Funeral service will take place Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Glen Eden Funeral Home Chapel, 4477 Main St. For those wishing, in memoriam donations may be made the to Arthritis Society, Manitoba Division, 386 Broadway, Suite 105, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 3R6.
