DOREEN COLLINGS July 13, 1928 - May 20, 2002 On May 20, 2002, Doreen Collings passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre. Dear family and friends - I would like to review my lifes journey with you. I was born in Winnipeg in 1928, the youngest child of Ernest and Verna Kearns. My survivors are my husband Albert; daughter Terry (Dean) son Garth; grandchildren, Jason and Kyle Shumka; brother Jack (Marlyn) and nieces, Diane and Debbie; and sister-in-law Flossie Collings. I went to school in the Fort Rouge area. Following school, I worked for Eatons and Sears for many years. I married Ab in 1951 and we enjoyed 50 years together. Over the years we shared a daughter Terry, and later our devoted son Garth. In the early 1960s, I started curling at the Deer Lodge Curling Club and continued curling for many years and was the "best curler in the club." I also served on the Deer Lodge executive for many years and became President. I was a member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans No. 283 and called Bingo for many years. Along the way I have made many friends through curling bonspiels and ANAF No. 283. I lived life to the fullest and had a "ball doing it." At my wishes, cremation has taken place. I want to really thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre and the Deer Lodge Hospital for their love and support these past few years. A private family service will be held at a later date. A reception for my family and friends will be held at the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans No. 283 at 3584 Portage Ave. on Thursday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doreen may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
