DORIS BAKER Surrounded by love and with her family by her side, Doris passed peacefully away at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg at the age of 86. Doris was born in Elmwood, on Harbison Ave., on April 27, 1916, to Annie and George Nichols. She attended Lord Selkirk and St. Johns Technical High School. She married Donald Macphail and celebrated 33 years of marriage. They had two children, Richard (Ricky) and Wendy. Donald predeceased her in 1973. In 1980, she married Fred Baker who passed away in 1995. She was also predeceased by her beloved son Ricky in 1968. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter Wendy (Doug), granddaughter Crystal, and grandson Jeff. She adored her two grandchildren, Crystal and Jeff, who held a special place in her heart. She is also survived her daughter-in-law Lucy and Freds children, Susan, Michael, Steven, Nancy and Paul. The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg was her home for the last seven years where she lived with love and dignity. Thank you to all of the staff at Convalescent Home, a remarkable group of caring individuals. Thanks to Brenda, Betty, Evelyn, Josephine and all the ladies for their love and support. Special thanks to Karen K. who gently walked with us and guided us through Moms years at the Convalescent Home. Mom will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her work ethic and the treasures she made for so many. Mom was a dressmaker all of her life. She continued to sew throughout her married life for herself, Wendy and others. Many brides celebrated their special day in beautiful dresses sewn by Doris. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needle and pettit point. She enjoyed many hours spent five pin bowling with Don, and later lawn bowling with Fred. She was a charter member of Jobs Daughter Bethal No. 1 and later served as Bethal Guardian. Doris valued many friendships through the years. Friendships with Peggy Gelley, Betty Herdy and the late Marge Norrie span 80 years. In recent years, Alzheimers had taken Moms memories but she will remain in our hearts always. Graveside service will be held on Friday, May 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Family and friends are asked to gather in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home before proceeding to the grave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St. North, Winnipeg, R3M 2N6.
