Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY BASARABA Peacefully, on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at the Red River Place Nursing Home, Mary Basaraba, our beloved Mother and Baba, passed away. Mary was born on August 2, 1912 in the Komarno District and lived there until 1960. She then moved to Winnipeg Beach and worked at the Winnipeg Beach Hotel for 18 years. After moving out of her house she lived in the Winnipeg Beach Lodge and later moved to Red River Place in May of 2000. Mary was an active member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church and some of her favourite pastimes were playing bingo, whist and crib. But most of all her greatest joy was time spent with family, cooking, baking and entertaining. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Mike in 1975; brother Bill; daughter Mavis; great-granddaughter Shannon; and her son-in-law Steve. Mary is survived by her daughters Natalie (Ivan) Talaga and Joan (Ernie) Swaykoski; sons Alex (Elsie) and Bob; son-in-law Aubrey Brautigam; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; step-sisters, Pearl, Lena and Nellie; and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 12:00 p.m. in the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Winnipeg Beach with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Marys pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations can be made in Marys name to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Red River Place Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Mary.
