BERNARD ROBERT GUYER MOODY (CAPT. RETIRED) Bernard Moody passed away on May 19, 2002, at the Grace Hospital. Bernard was born on December 12, 1911, in London, England and was the son of Sydney Guyer, deceased in 1914 and Edith Vickery, deceased in 1958. He came to Canada at a very young age in 1919. He met and married Irene (Doherty) on June 22, 1935 and they were happily married for 51 and a half years. Bernard was predeceased by his wife Irene on January 15, 1987 and his step-father William Robert Moody in 1958. Bernie worked for the T. Eaton Company as a Pressman joining in 1926 and continued working for them and was then transferred from Winnipeg to Toronto on March 19, 1955 with Eatons who combined with Southam Murray where he continued to work until he retired in 1974 (48 years) at which time he returned to Winnipeg. Being such a young person at heart, he wasnt ready to retire so he worked at the C.N.I.B., setting up recorders and taking people to doctors appointments, etc. Bernie served proudly with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and was overseas from 1939 to 1944. He was wounded three times in Dieppe, and fortunately came home. Bernie was a member of ANAVETS Unit 283 for 34 years and received his Life Membership in 1997. He was also a Sgt. at Arms of this Unit for many years, a position he was very proud to hold and always did a fantastic job. He also enjoyed printing the newsletter. The love of his life were his grandchildren, always loved to "be young" with them and that love was returned. He will be sadly missed and forever loved by his daughter Elsie Fraser (Marv) son Bill Moody (Linda) his five grandchildren, Don (Sue), Bill (Lisa), Jackie (Blair), Billy and Tina; and his three great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Amanda and Michael; his only sister Irene Dickson (George) as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans Unit 283, 3584 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
