E.D. GRANT SCHAPPERT Peacefully, with his family by his side, Grant joined the Heavens on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at the Health Sciences Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer complicated by a stroke. Predeceased by his daughter Paula, and father John, he will be lovingly remembered by wife Laura; mother Bertha of Langenburg, SK; daughter Cheryl, granddaughters, Nicole, Danielle and their father Richard; son Curtis Scott, granddaughter Rachel and grandson Kyle and their mother Loreen. Also numerous relatives which include sisters and brothers-in-law, aunts, an uncle and many cousins. Grant was born in Marchwell, SK on January 21, 1931, only son of John and Bertha Schappert. He attended schools in Marchwell, Langenburg and Luther College in Regina, SK. Grant worked in the grain industry all of his life, starting as a buyer for Federal Grains Ltd., at Shellbrook, Nipawin and Tugaske, and was then transferred to head office in Winnipeg as a Grain Inspector. He was later promoted to Senior Inspector and took an early retirement in 1990. Following retirement, Grant and Laura purchased a hobby farm near Fraserwood, MB, where they spent many enjoyable times together. Grant also enjoyed hunting, fishing and on the curling rink, he was well known as "the best third in Shellbrook"! He will be lovingly remembered as a devout husband, son, father and friend. A heartfelt thank you to his doctors, the nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Centre - the care he received was excellent. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Grants life will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Ave. W. at Madeline. Pastor Dan Abraham will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot, or the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Henceforth, there is laid up for me A crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, And not to me only, But unto them also that love is appearing."
