ROY GERING Suddenly on Friday, May 17, 2002 Dad left us to join Mom who passed away in September 2001. Dad is survived by his children, Margaret (Rob) Ellison, Beverley Wolfe (Tom Neufeld), son Ralph and Tannis whom he considered his other daughter; his grandchildren, Stacy and Jenna Metner, Kevin and Tara Ellison, Steven and Krystin Gering; and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Owen. Dad is also survived by his brother Walter and sister-in-law Edith Gering; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan and Margaret Bottrell and Victor and Helen Goertzen; along with many nieces and nephews and close friends. Dad was born on the family homestead in Faulkner, MB on September 25, 1915. He enjoyed life there with his brothers, Rudolf, Robert, Earl, Gustav, Albert, Walter; and sister Clara. He worked as a farm hand and fisherman in his younger years and then bought his own farm. Dad was a hard worker and loved the land. He had a strong work ethic. He met Mom and was married on April 5, 1952. Dad farmed until 1981, retiring in Moosehorn. Dads grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him. Papa will be missed a great deal. Dad had a ready smile and never lost his sense of humour. He enjoyed playing jokes on anyone who was around. He was not shy and loved to talk. His pride and joy were his flowers, garden and apples. Anyone who visited had to have a walking tour and to share his vegetables and apples. Dad loved going to garage sales and auction sales, always getting a bargain. His pets were his life. He and Mom fed thousands of birds in their spruce trees. Dad was the best dad and grandpa. He is now sitting with Mom on their swing helping plant Gods potatoes. "We love you always." Thanks to Dr. Berrow for allowing Dad to "do it his way" and to Pastor Donna for being such a special person. A celebration of Roys life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Moosehorn, MB, with Rev. Donna J. Smalley officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to follow in the Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Gering, Gordon Gering, Robert Metner, Art Springer, Lawrence Baker and Edward Semler. Everyone in attendance can consider themselves honorary pallbearers for Roy that day.
