JEAN ALICE ANEMA (nee SPEED) Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Jean Alice Anema (nee Speed) passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2002. Jean was born in Winnipeg to Robert (Ted) and Myrtle Speed on December 8, 1926 and was baptized in St. Vital United Church. She was an active member of the church throughout her life and, at the time of her death, was the oldest member of the congregation. After graduation from Glenlawn High School, she attended the University of Manitoba where she received her Home Economics Degree in 1948. Following a year of training in dietetics, she went to work as a dietitian at the Winnipeg General Hospital until she married Peter in 1951. Jeans priority was her family and she practiced the craft of motherhood with wisdom, humour and common sense. While raising her young family, she maintained her active association with her church. Her children knew she would always be there to listen to their troubles, offer sage advice and give them the courage to continue on their own journey. She loved family camping trips, reading, bird watching, crossword puzzles, Scrabble games and the church, and welcomed her childrens friends and acquaintances into the family fold. She was a generous and loving woman who established lifelong friendships and will be sorely missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her life will be celebrated by her husband Peter; her children, Kathy (Tom), Janet (Armand), Steve (Jane), Bob and David (Gail). She was the proud grandmother of Stewart (Nadine), Kara, James (Christine), Travis, Becky, Beth and Tory. A memorial service will be held in St. Vital United Church, 937 St. Marys Rd., at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30. A private family interment will take place prior to the service. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and care over the past six years. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association (Winnipeg and District Branch), 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6, or a charity of their choice.
