Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRODNEY (SANDY) HANSON December 7, 1922 - May 22, 2002 Sandy passed away peacefully at home in the loving company of his wife, Jean and daughter, Sharon. Sandy was born on Spider Island, MB and grew up in Selkirk. As many Icelanders did, he spent much of his early years fishing. He helped his father Hjortur (Fatty) Hanson, run his own fishing company on Lake Winnipeg. In 1939, at age 17, Sandy enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served on active duty until 1945. Sandy went on to work with the Freshwater Fisheries Research Institute for 30 years, until he retired. His favourite pastimes were spending time at the cottage at Victoria Beach and blueberry picking on Elk Island. In addition to wife Jean and daughter Sharon, Sandy is survived by one brother Gordon of Palm Springs, CA; nieces, Louise Lailey of Seattle and Dorothy Campbell of British Columbia; nephews Ken Lailey of Winnipeg, Jim Lailey of Seattle, Wayne, Ken and George Hanson of British Columbia, and Paul Hanson of Calgary. Sincere thanks to Dr. J.E. Walli for his excellent and compassionate care. Thanks also to the entire homecare staff for their care and kindness. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. A private family interment will also take place.
