Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY SMITH (nee BABIJ) September 25, 1902- May 24, 2002 On Friday evening May 24, 2002 Mary Smith passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, just four months before her 100th birthday. Mary, born in Malonton, MB is survived by her sister Doris Frazer; her loving son Robert Smith; daughter Shirley (Terry) Walker; son Robert (Maria) Anderson with whom she was reunited in 1989. She was predeceased by her son Bill in 1984; daughter-in-law Claudette; and 11 of her 12 siblings, Teeny, Anne, Harry, John, Steve, Nellie, Violet, Bill, Jessie, Mike, and Lily. She also leaves a legion of beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends that comprised her extended family. Mom played a major role in caring for her siblings after her mothers passing in the Flu Epidemic of 1917. She was an affectionate, expressive lady whom we will remember as being generous with her bear hugs and kisses assuring us she loved us. She was strong willed, hard working, independent and determined; always very much her own person whose presence, personality andguiding hands will be missed. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the kindness and support of dear family friend Elma Sinclair. Also, much appreciated are the Home Care workers who assisted Mary during her 27 year residence at Fred Tipping Place, and all the nurses and care workers on the third floor east wing of the Pembina Place Mennonite PCH at the Deaf Centre, 285 Pembina Hwy., since she moved there in January, 2000. The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 28, 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Trans Canada Hwy No.1 East at Navin Road, with a service by Rev. Walter Cowan. Internment will follow at Green Acres. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in Marys memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice. Arrangements are in care of Green Acres Funeral Chapel, phone 222-3241.
