C. MARVIN McDONALD On May 26, 2002, at the Grace Hospital, C. Marvin McDonald passed away at the age of 62. Marv was predeceased by his parents, Art and Stella. He is survived by his wife June; children Cameron (Vivian), Ross (Carrie) Bruce and Jennifer; stepchildren, Cynthia, Brock (Kim), Craig and Graham (Gillian) sister Ricky (Ron) brother-in-law Bob (Patricia) grandchildren, Emma, Nicholas, Alexandria, Kyle, Jacqueline and Kelly; Aunt Erma, Bernice, Mary and Uncle Gordon. Marv also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who made up his extended family. Marv was born in Black Diamond, AB, (the land of milk and honey) on January 12, 1940. As a boy he and his family moved to Edmonton. He graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Physical Education. Marvs love of sport, especially swimming, is reflected in his numerous achievements as both competitor and coach. He taught at N.A.I.T. before coming to Winnipeg in 1969 to assume coaching duties with the Cardinal Swim Club. He went on to a decorated career as a sports writer with the Winnipeg Free Press. The family cottage at West Hawk Lake was the scene of happy times for Marv, whether he was swatting flies, playing scrabble, avoiding the water or attempting the crossword, Marv was in his glory at the lake. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, on Thursday, May 30 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Association for the Support of Swimming Excellence Inc., in care of Swim Manitoba 200 Main St., Winnipeg, MB, or the Palliative Care Unit at the Grace Hospital.
