ELIZABETH EVE TANCHAK (nee ZAYACHKOWSKI) With deep sadness we announce that on Thursday, May 23, 2002, Elizabeth Eve Tanchak passed away after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Elizabeth is lovingly remembered by her husband of 41 years, Morris; her children, Robert, Harvey and Pat (Tym). She is also survived by her sister Mary (Ben) Popien of Neepawa; brothers-in-law, Harry (Mary) and Mike (Anne) Tanchak of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Mary (Wayne) Haberstock of Calgary and Jean Tanchak of Fisher Branch; and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was born in Cudworth, SK, on May 29, 1939, to Steve and Annie Zayachkowski. She grew up in Prudhomme, SK, where she loved being outside helping her father on the farm and driving the horses. Mom graduated from high school in 1958. She began permit teaching in September 1958 in Willingdon School in Kilkenny where she met Dad. She would continue her teaching career in and around the Fisher Branch area until retiring from Fisher Branch Collegiate in 1997. Elizabeth was a dedicated teacher and took an active interest in the futures of the students she taught. While teaching and raising a family, Elizabeth took courses to achieve a Bachelor of Education in 1982. After retiring, Mom took an interest in local and provincial politics. She was the Secretary for the local riding NDP party for a couple of years. She also helped Dad to co-ordinate the "Call of the Wild" community event for several years. Mom loved to cook for family and friends, play piano, watch and feed birds of all varieties, gardening and babying her dogs, Zeus and Apollo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Harvest, 1085 Winnipeg Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0S2, in Elizabeths memory. The family would like to thank Shannon Pyziak along with the doctors and staff at Percy E. Moore Hospital for all of their care. We would also like to thank the many friends and family for their support in this most difficult time. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 at the Roman Catholic Rectory, Tache St., Fisher Branch, MB. Fr. David Kowalski officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Ukrainian National Home. It was Elizabeths wish to be cremated with a private service to be held at a later date. One day at a time, this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; And do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering. Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.
