Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS M. R. SARGENT Phyllis Sargent of Red River Place, Selkirk, MB. passed away peacefully May 27, 2002. She was born to James and Annie Dawson on May 11, 1909, on the family farm in the Treherne District of Manitoba. Several family moves brought them to the Wheatland in 1924. A few years later she met and married Walter Sargent, and remained farming in the area until 1947. They sold their farm bought land near Selkirk and became market gardeners in the Old England/Mapleton Area. Through their garden they brought the joy of beauty and taste to many with their "Glads", corn and strawberries. Many friendships grew here too. They actively supported their church and community and enjoyed square dancing and their many trips together. Phyllis was an active member of the St. Johns Ambulance and recently received recognition for 50 years of service. They retired to Lions Manor in the early 80s and made a new life for themselves while keeping in touch with their many friends and family. Aunt Phyllis will be greatly missed by her sister Helens family, a sister-in-law Mary Maguire of Penticton B.C. and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter, sisters and brother-in-law, sister Helen Couch, and Helens daughter Cybel. A memorial service will be held from Gilbart Funeral Home, Friday, May 31 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev barb janes officiating. Charitable contributions in memory of Phyllis may be made to Selkirk United Church, as flowers are gratefully declined. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to staff and caregivers at Red River Place and to her special friends for all the caring support shown to Phyllis these past months.
