CYRIL BURGOYNE Suddenly on May 29, 2002, Cyril (Cy) Darryl Burgoyne passed away at his residence. Cy was born in McCreary, MB on April 25, 1919 and was predeceased by his father Solomon; his mother Cora; his brother Gerald; and his sisters-in-law, Marie and Eleanor. He is survived by his wife Gerrie; his daughter Dr. Anne Percival (Dr. Adrian Fine), Winnipeg; his sons, Paul, Vancouver, Jim, Bangkok, Thailand, and Leslie (Loretta), Sioux Lookout, ON; his two grandchildren, John Percival, Winnipeg, and Jayne Burgoyne, Vancouver; his brother Leo, Thunder Bay, ON; and many dear nieces and nephews. Cy was born into a farming family who took up land north of McCreary in 1901. He attended Sunrise School, a one room school house, until he finished grade 8, the highest grade level available. Cy joined the Fort Garry Horse Reserves which had a regiment in his area. To get away from the farm, he would take a few days off and go to camp even if it meant riding a horse all the way to Shilo. When war was declared, he and his buddies joined up together. Cy survived the war, although injured once, got his commission at Sandhurst, England, and returned a Lieutenant to the Fort Garry Armoured Regiment in the field. He was decorated by the Dutch Government and left the service a Captain. Cy attended the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1952 with a Civil Engineering degree. He worked for Imperial Oil for several years and then began his own business, Burgoyne and Partners. Cy loved fishing, hunting and, at one time, flying, and he had so many stories to tell. He spent his last 12 years at his beloved cottage on Lake of the Woods, wintering in Florida, before returning to Winnipeg a year ago. He was a loving man, much loved by his family, and he will be missed. A service to commemorate Cys life will be held on Monday, June 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St., St. Boniface. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army, the Fort Garry Horse Veterans Association or to a charity of ones choice. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220
