FLORENTINO (FLOR) I. CADIGAL, JR. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the loss of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, Florentino (Flor) I. Cadigal, Jr. After a difficult and courageous battle with cancer, Flor passed away at the age of 70 on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Health Sciences Centre. Flors memory will forever be cherished by his wife Sally; daughters, Agnes Pagtakhan (Arnel) of Winnipeg and Lourdes Gaultier (Denis) of Thunder Bay; sons, Jake (Carol) of Winnipeg, Joseph (Nancy) and John both of Montreal; grandchildren, Grace, Gabrielle, Adrian and Nicholas; sisters, Jovina Baino (Juan), Nieves Hernandez (Dionisio) and Moncy Pacheco (Fred) all of Baltimore, and Cora Alcuitas (Ted) of Vancouver; and numerous relatives in Canada, the United States and the Philippines. He was predeceased by his parents, Florentino, Sr. and Ines. Flor was born in Manila, Philippines on July 15, 1931. He spent his formative years and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree at the San Jose Seminary. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Masters in Philosophy. He taught languages at Ateneo University and English at the Philippine School of Business Administration. Flor and his family immigrated to Canada in 1976. He was a life underwriter for Manulife for many years. In 1988, he started his financial services business at Primerica with his son Jake. Flor treasured life and relished sharing his joy with others. For years, he delivered news from back home on TV and radio to the Filipino community in Winnipeg. As Tinong Barbero, he offered his humourous, yet insightful reflections on life in his column, Bato Bato sa Langit in the Filipino newspaper, Silangan. His energy was tireless and his dedication to his family, friends and community was selfless. His devotion to God guided his life and sustained him through the harshness of his illness. We miss you, Pops...thank you for filling our lives with your love! Cremation has already taken place. A mass celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., with Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. If friends so desire, a donation in Flors memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Autism Society of Manitoba. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and doctors from the Health Sciences Centre and CancerCare Manitoba for the wonderful care and compassion Flor and his family received.
