MARION ELEANOR McGILLIVRAY Marion (Mrs. E.H.) McGillivray passed away April 10, 2002 in Toronto at the age of 85, following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Hodgins McGillivray, her sister Nora Setter, and her granddaughter Sarah Anne McGillivray. She is deeply loved and sadly missed by her brother James Argue; her children, Judith Roth, Archibald McGillivray, Jane Wilson and Bruce McGillivray, their spouses, Michael, Anne, Jim and Micheline; her grandchildren, Michael Roth and Bonnie (Roth) Hayward, Ceridwen (McGillivray) Ross Collins, Maia, Alexander and Liam McGillivray, Lindsay Wilson and Leah and Jessica McGillivray; and her great-grandchildren, Kynan, Noah and Alexander, and Aleksander, Lara and Nicholas. Marion was born July 29, 1916 to James Oswald and Christine (Yuill) Argue of Elgin, MB. Her grandfather James Argue was the first to settle the Elgin area. He and her father J.O., both farmers, were Members of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. In 1942, Marion married Edward Hodgins McGillivray, a flyer with the RAF during the Second World War. Her beloved husband of 43 years, Edward is the son of Archibald and Mabel (Hodgins) McGillivray. Archibald McGillivray was Manitoba Deputy Minister of Public Works from 1928 to 1936, overseeing the Good Roads program, Depression relief and, as a young engineer, the opening of the Whiteshell. Marion graduated as a registered nurse with the Class of 39A at Winnipeg General Hospital and practised in Red Lake, Winnipeg, Calgary, Trail, Summerland, Saskatoon and Toronto. Her professionalism, love of nursing and administrative skills are visible through a career spanning 40 years, from neonatal to geriatric care and everything in between. She was Head Nurse at Deer Park Lodge, Toronto from 1969 to her retirement. Her kindness, patience, acceptance, helpfulness and sense of humour endeared her to her patients. As our mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend, Marion was this to us and more. She had the gift of making each of us feel uniquely loved and understood. This is her enduring legacy. Memorial services were held April 17 at Chapel in the Park, Toronto. Marion is buried beside her husband in the McGillivray family plot in St. Johns Anglican Cathedral churchyard in Winnipeg.
