Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET MAE TAYLOR (nee FERRIS) 1923 - 2002 Widow of the late William Taylor, passed away May 30, 2002 at Hamiota District Health Centre, Hamiota, MB. Mae was born July 1, 1923 at Holland, MB, the 12th in a family of 14 children born to Lewis and Annie Ferris. Her elementary education was taken at Camille School, north of Holland and High School at Holland Collegiate. Teacher training was taken at the Winnipeg Provincial Normal School on William Avenue in 1942-43. Mae taught at Northfield School near Wawanesa, Little Souris, south of Brandon and lastly at Crandall School. In October 1948, Mae married an R.C.A.F. Veteran, William Taylor of Lenore, MB. Together they farmed and raised a family of two boys, Robert and Brian, in the Crandall and Pope Area before retiring to Hamiota in 1980. Music played an important role in Maes life. She sang in United Church choirs at Holland, Crandall and Hamiota over a period of 50 years. In her younger days, she was soloist at many concerts and weddings. As a long time member of the Crandall Womens Institute, she held office on the local, regional and provincial boards. She was life a life member of the Hamiota Agricultural Society and an active member of the Hamiota UCW. As a member of the Hamiota Ladies Legion Auxiliary, she held the office of Branch President and Deputy Zone Commander. Mae was predeceased by her grandson Jamie Taylor in January 1998; her husband William in March 1998; two sisters, Irene Kerr and Beatrice Down; three brothers, Harold killed overseas in the Second World War, Allen and Elliot. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Susan) of Winnipeg, Brian (Margie) of Hamiota; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Taylor of Winnipeg and Mandy Taylor of Vermilion, AB; five sisters, Iola (Bernard) Goekoop of Rivers, Alice (Ralph) Ballantine of Pilot Mound, Ellen Rutherford of Holland, Dorothy Caslick of Red Deer and Elsie (Sandy) Murray of Moose Jaw; two brothers, Bill (Marie) Ferris of Holland and Tom (Mary) Ferris of Brandon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. For those so desiring, donations may be made in Maes memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Hamiota United Church Memorial Fund. The service will be held on Monday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hamiota United Church, Hamiota, MB. Interment following in the Hamiota Cemetery.
