FR. JOHN HESS Our much-loved Fr. John Hess passed away on Monday, May 27, 2002. Fr. John had faithfully served the Russian Orthodox Church for many years. After being raised in a religious way, especially from the influence of his grandmother. He attended the Russian Orthodox seminary at Jordanville, NY. Afterwards, he became a monk, then priest and served in Europe, Greece, and in the Holy Land. He then served the Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox parish in Winnipeg for eight years in the 1980s. He then served the Russian parish in Lethbridge, AB, before returning to Winnipeg about four years ago. Fr. John subsequently joined one of the Greek Old Calendarist Churches in Winnipeg. Although Fr. John endured serious illness for many years he continued to faithfully serve the church, coming to church to read and sing in the middle of winter arriving by bus and using his cane. One could never imagine Fr. John retiring! Vichnaya Pamyat Fr. John! Memorial Liturgy will be served at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6 at The Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church at 732 Alfred Ave.
