EDWARD BURKE It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather, Edward Burke, on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Grace Hospital. Edward is survived by his loving wife Nadia; son Glenn and wife Paula; and granddaughter Ainsley. Edward was predeceased by his parents; his parents-in-law; brother Henry Burke; sister Helen Latoski; brothers-in-law, John Latoski, Art Mann and Jim Bensinger; and sisters-in-law, Lesia Adelberg and Simone Dowhan. He will be dearly remembered by his brother Norman; sisters, Viola Mann and Flo Bensinger; and his in-laws, Mary Burke, Walter Dowhan and Norm Adelberg. Edward was loved and will be missed by his many godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ed was born on May 17, 1924 in Winnipeg where he resided all his life. He served with the P.P.C.L.I., during the Second World War. Ed retired from the federal government, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, after 33 years of service. He enjoyed travelling throughout North America and in 1990 spent a month touring Asia. His favourite winter destination was Hawaii, which he visited for many years. Ed and his family also spent many happy summers at their Caddy Lake cottage. He was a generous host and always made everyone feel welcome, both at his home and at his cottage. After his retirement, Ed took up bowling, curling and golf. Ed was a longtime member of Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. The family would like to thank the caregivers from home care as well as the staff at Luther Home and Grace Hospital for their care and compassion during Eds lengthy illness. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Eds life will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eds memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
