JEAN M. BUCK (nee JEAN DUNN) Peacefully, following an illness accepted with great fortitude and a positive spirit, Jean Buck passed away with family present, on May 31, 2002, at Riverside Health Centre. Jean will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends in both Winnipeg and Owen Sound, ON. Her children are, Lynn (Peter) McClure, David Buck (Claudia) and Mary Josephine Buck (Greg) Lowe; grandchildren are, Robin McClure (Jerome Seremak), Alec McClure, Anna Buck, Julia Buck and Paul Buck. Jean is survived by her brother Homer (Allie) Dunn. Her husband Jack died in 1976. Jean was born in Streetsville, ON, in 1912 and graduated from University of Toronto in 1934. She met her husband Jack as they travelled on the same bus to university from the small towns of Streetsville and Georgetown outside of Toronto. They married in 1940 and lived very happily in Owen Sound. Much of that time was spent in "the house that Jack built" at the top of 16th Street west hill. Throughout her life Jean displayed a lively curiosity and interest in people, animals, and nature. In the 1960s she took a French course and this led to the creation of a little band of friends in Owen Sound, who met weekly to speak French and then moved on to German. These women were good friends and very much a support group as the years passed. Jean was an active member of Westside United Church, she was involved in the YWCA during her early years in Owen Sound, and with Jack, was a life member of the Sydeham Skating Club. In 2000 Jean moved to Winnipeg and for the two past years has been a resident of Heritage House. She was fortunate to find new friends and supportive helpers in this setting and it was an opportunity for her Winnipeg family to hold her close. Despite being a reserved person, Jean was kind and caring; she had a resilience and gentle humour that will be remembered fondly by her family who loved her, and all who knew her. A service of remembrance will take place on Friday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the Central West Side United Church, 310 - 10th Street West, Owen Sound, ON, with Rev. David Shearman officiating. A service of remembrance will also take place on Tuesday, June 11 at 2:00 p.m. for Jeans friends and helpers in the Fred Douglas Heritage House, 100 The Promenade, Winnipeg, MB. The family extends thanks to the following: Dawn Shiloh, Joyce MacIntosh, Fred Douglas Heritage House, staff of Riverview Health Centre and Dr. Frank Martin and Associates. Flowers gratefully declined; should friends so desire, donations in Jeans memory may be made to a charity of ones choice. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1858 Portage Avenue, 949-4872
