JACOB (JAKE) HEINRICHS

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACOB (JAKE) HEINRICHS Peacefully, with family at his side, Jake left this earthly life on May 30, 2002, and moved to his eternal life. He is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 67 years; two sons, Roy (Edith) of Winnipeg and Harvey (Gloria) of Surrey, BC; three grandsons; two granddaughters, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jake was born in 1913 in Rhineland municipality. He lived in the surrounding area until he was a young man, and then in Plum Coulee, where he met and married Mary Striemer in 1935. In 1941 he moved his family to Winnipeg. Jake worked at Wiebes Transfer in Plum Coulee, and then at George MacLean Wholesales in Winnipeg before joining the Canadian Army. When war was over, he resumed his former job with George MacLean. In 1952, he joined the West Kildonan Fire Department. Over the years, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and then Acting Lieutenant, finally retiring in 1974. For many years, Jake and Mary enjoyed happy hours at their summer homes at Matlock and Winnipeg beaches. In later years, failing health kept them closer to their Winnipeg home. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with visitation at 2:30 p.m. Interment and reception will follow.
