MILDRED ANN (MILLIE) McMULLAN Surrounded by her loving family, Millie passed away on June 4, 2002, at the Victoria General Hospital, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Millie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Emmett and her beloved children, Michael and Erin. All three were her best friends and the joys of her life. Millie is also survived by her sister-in-law Dolores Wilson (Bill) and her brothers-in-law, Jack and Brian, of whom she was very fond. Millie especially admired her cousin Marion Tannian and her husband Jim, speaking often of their kindness to her and to her mother. Millie was predeceased by her mother and father, Mildred Julia Newman-Hart and Michael J. Hart and her brother Robert Michael (Bob) Hart. She was also predeceased by her parents-in-law, always affectionately remembering her mother-in-law, May. Millie was passionate about everything she committed to, whether in her family life, as a wife and mother, or in her professional career as a teacher, or in community or church activities. She was a devoted daughter and thought the world of her parents. After the death of her father, Millies mother moved to Mississauga from Montreal (Millies birthplace). Millie made frequent trips to Mississauga, to minister to her mother during the last years of her illness. To give less than 100% of herself was never an option for Millie. Millie greeted each day with boundless enthusiasm and energy. She loved teaching and watched the growth and development of her students over the years with awe and wonder. She never tired of the challenges and joys of teaching children and looked forward to going to work each day. She was always busy, preferring to wear out rather than to rust out. She loved being "at home" and immensely enjoyed working in and around the house. When she was a "stay at home" mom, she loved to entertain and she enjoyed the mental stimulation of the many courses she took. She was enthusiastic about reading, walking, tennis, swimming and being outdoors, especially when admiring her roses. Millie was a very private person and seldom revealed her worries and concerns, even to her family. Yet she was passionate about standing up for what she believed in and speaking out against the injustices she saw around her. One of her daily prayers was for wisdom to know what could and should be changed and for courage to make the necessary changes. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Sharkey, Dr. Ian Maxwell, Ann, Astrid, Bonnie, Barb, Penny, Cathy and all the staff in the Oncology Department at the Victoria General Hospital. Thanks also to Dr. Ethel MacIntosh and Dr. Kalyani Vijay at CancerCare Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. Prayers, followed by Mass of Christian Burial, will be held in St. Vital Parish Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2G6 at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, with Rev. Dr. Patrick Morand officiating. A private interment will take place at Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Flowers are graciously declined, but prayers will be gratefully accepted. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Millies memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to the Oncology Building Fund, The Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8. Rest in Peace, Mom! Funeral arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOMES 1531 PEMBINA HWY. 284-7500
