ALAN MURRIE McKAY 1942 - 2002 Always loving: Always loved Alan Murrie McKay peacefully left us, with courage and great faith, on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at home with his deeply loved wife and soul mate, Susan. Alan waged a courageous battle with cancer, but a cure was not in Gods plan for him. Left to cherish his memory are Susan and his mother-in-law Aileen Piper of Winnipeg; his brother Tom (Lynn, Julie, Stephanie, Jeffery) of Toronto; his sister Morag MacDonald (Bill, Angela) of Cupar, Scotland; and his brother and sister-in-law Wendy and Murray Russell of Ottawa; as well as a host of friends and colleagues, especially his longtime friends from the wonderful Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. He will also be sorely missed by his devoted four legged companions, Dreyfuss, Lissa and Chi-chi. He was predeceased by his parents, who have eagerly awaited his arrival home in heaven. In 1967, Alan emigrated from Scotland (via Sweden) to Montreal, where he lived until he moved to Winnipeg in 1984. He began his career in the pulp and paper industry in Scotland and Sweden, then began a long career in the aerospace industry with Rolls Royce Canada in Montreal and in Winnipeg with Standard Aero. For the last seven years he had a new career as a dealer and inspector at McPhillips Street Station casino. In his leisure time, he loved to be on the golf course with his friends, always trying to cajole them (especially Bernie) into giving him strokes. In recent years, he took an interest in gardening and woodworking, and he was becoming fairly good with the scroll saw, cutting wood and making items for Susan to embellish. A celebration of Alans short but full life on earth will take place on Friday, June 7, at 3:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment following immediately thereafter. A coffee reception will be held on site afterwards. In lieu of flowers, Alan has asked that donations be sent to CancerCare Manitoba, the Grace Hospital, Alcoholics Anonymous or the Salvation Army. The warmest of thank yous are extended to Alans doctors, Ritchie and Harris, and to all the friends and family who gave him their loving support and prayers in the months since his diagnosis. A special thanks also goes to Molly, Mariette, Mark and the other members of the palliative care program who made his final weeks comfortable. God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference. Alan entrusted his final arrangements to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
