Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN HELEN MENRAD (nee FINDLATER) Peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Grace Hospital, Doreen Menrad of Woodlands, MB. Doreen was born in Winnipeg on April 30, 1921. Doreen was predeceased by her father Thomas Findlater (born in Scotland), her mother Ida Evelyn (nee Haywood), and her brother John Findlater, who lost his life in 1943 while serving his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Doreen grew up in Winnipeg, attending Principal Sparling School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. On completing her education, she was employed with Dominion Bridge, then many years with Manitoba Bridge and subsequently at Deer Lodge Hospital, first under the Department of Veterans Affairs and later under the Department of National Health and Welfare. A few years prior to her retirement, at age 65, she made her last home in Woodlands, in surroundings which nourished her unabiding love of nature and rewarded her with many new loyal and devoted friends. Doreen was a deeply spiritual person, yet very private in the expression of her beliefs. She was similarly devoted to her friends and inspired great loyalty in turn. In her younger years she thoroughly enjoyed playing baseball and in her later years the comforts of country life in the loving companionship of her pets. Doreen will be sorely missed by all her friends who would like to thank the staff of the Home Care Program in Woodlands and the doctors and nurses of Grace Hospital in Winnipeg who provided aid and comfort in the fall of her life and to the very end. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Rev. Ted Hicks will officiate. The service will conclude at the chapel. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
