Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPARASKA KAWCHUK Peacefully at the Holy Family Nursing Home on Friday, June 7, 2002, at the age of 99 years. Paraska was born in Palashivka, Ternopil oblast, W. Ukraine on October 19, 1902. Having been forced to flee her homeland by the circumstances of war, the family, comprising of her husband Jacob and daughters, Maria and Sophia, spent six years in Germany in refugee camps. They immigrated to Canada in 1950 and settled in Winnipeg. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and was actively involved in the Apostleship of Prayer Group in the parish. She was also involved in many fund raising projects in aid of the parish. She greatly enjoyed cross-stitching, and her legacy to the parish she loved is in the form of cross-stitched altar cloths presently in use in the church. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob in 1955. Left to cherish her member are her daughters, Maria (Dmytro), Sophia (Stephan) grandchildren, Anna Kushnir (Peter), Myron Mazur, Oksana Mazur, Thor Petelycky (Oksana), Marianna Petelycky, Theresa Petelycky, Andrew Petelycky (Ashley) great-grandchildren, Marissa, Nina and Tania Lucich, Olexandra Kushnir, Julian and Martha Petelycky; as well as relatives in Winnipeg, United States and Ukraine. Panachyda will be sung 7:00 p.m, Monday, June 10, preceded by rosary prayers at 6:45 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church, Bannerman Avenue at Arlington Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, also at the church, with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Holy Family Cemetery Maintenance Fund, or a charity of your choice.
