ARTHUR ALEXANDER CRIPPS At the much too young age of 62, Art Cripps passed away in the presence of his family on June 8, 2002. Art is survived by his loving wife Ditta; sons, Sean (Teresa) and Shane (Li) grand-children, Keenan, James, Austin and Ethan. He is also survived by his mother Ann; sisters, Margaret, Shirley and Debbie (Tom). Art was born in Winnipeg on June 27, 1939. He lived on a farm south of Stonewall, attending Tecumseh School and then Stonewall Collegiate. He left high school early and at the age of 17 joined the Navy, with a letter of recommendation from then principal Bobby Bend. Art left the Navy in 1961 and settled in Churchill, where he held a number of jobs, spending his free time as a guide, working with his dog team, hunting and fishing. It was also here where he met and fell in love with his wife of 32 years, Ditta. He started work with Manitoba Hydro and they moved to Gillam where both of their children were born. In 1980, after 11 years with Hydro, they returned to the family farm just south of Stonewall. It was here that Art began to really devote time to the things he loved: farming and working outside, carpentry of all sorts and growing a market garden. You are loved and will be missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel at 433 Main St., Stonewall. The service will conclude at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
