MICHAEL GARUS 1922 - 2002 Beloved Husband of Irene Garus Peacefully, on Monday, June 10, 2002, Michael Garus, aged 80 years, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. Michael was born in Lososin, Poland on February 12, 1922. He served as a soldier during the war years and fought in the Middle East and Italy, including the famous battle at Monte Cassino. At wars end, Michael lived in England and attended University. He immigrated to Canada in 1952, settling in Winnipeg. In 1953 he married beautiful Irene Posadziejewska, herself an immigrant from Poland. They were blessed with a son Oliver in 1955. Michael enjoyed his working years, and made a lovely home in St. Vital. He was quiet and gentle, liked reading, gardening and politics, his family and his friends. Michael was active with the Polish Combatants Association, and a founding member of St. Andrew Bobola Parish. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff of St. Boniface Hospital, Ward 5A for taking wonderful care of Dad in the final two weeks of his life. If he were here today, I know he would say, God bless you all. Prayers will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Bobola Roman Catholic Church, 541 Marion St., with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11:00 a.m. also at the Church, with Rev. Fr. Jan Spyrka officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Public Libraries would please Michael.
