MARY GRACE MUIR February 17, 1911 - June 8, 2002 It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mary Grace Muir announce her death on June 8, 2002 at Grace Hospital, following a brief illness. Predeceased by her husband William in 1974, sister Ella Hebden, and brother Jack Mumford, Grace is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Bell and Joan McKenzie; brother Harry Mumford; son Bill; daughter-in-law Marilyn; her grandchildren, Chad (Leslie) Muir, Lisa (Bob) Spelchack; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Cassandra. Born in Brandon, the eldest daughter of Arthur and Helen Mumford, Grace graduated from the School of Nursing at Brandon General Hospital in 1933. Shortly before her graduation, she met her husband William and was married in 1937. She pursued her nursing career in Brandon and after moving to Winnipeg in 1950, continued nursing at the Maternity Pavillion of the Winnipeg General Hospital until 1967, when she retired to enjoy time with her grandchildren. Grace was a devoted mother and grandmother, taking pride in her familys accomplishments and providing her support whenever it was needed. Her strength and her generous spirit will be missed. She stalwartly believed in the importance of education, attending classes provided by the Continuing Education Department of the University of Winnipeg, until the spring of 2001. While Grace enjoyed life to the fullest, her favourite times were her summers at the family cottage at Betula Lake. She remained active and independent until the end of her life. At her request, a private family service has been held, with interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Terry Hidichuk officiating. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Grace Hospital for their exceptional kindness and compassionate care. Friends so wishing can make donations in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or the charity of their choice.
