TARAS (TERRY) SOLTYS Taras (Terry) Soltys who was a longtime member of International Union of Operating Engineers local 115, "the best cat skinner in the west", passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at the age of 68 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Terry is survived by his only daughter Karen Soltys (Ron Williams) and only granddaughter Terri who was his pride and joy. Also mourning his passing are his mother Verna Soltys; brother Maurice (Jeanette) Soltys; and sisters, Olga Livingston and Marion Soltys; as well as his nieces and nephews. Terry was born in Selkirk, MB on August 10, 1933. He moved to Kamloops in the mid 60s and devoted his life to raising his daughter Karen. In 1979 they settled in Savona where he retired and lived out his last years. He was outspoken but generous and will always be remembered for his love of gardening and his willingness to lend a hand when needed. All who knew Terry are welcome to attend the graveside service, which will be held at the Savona Cemetery on Friday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. Tea will follow at the Savona Seniors Center.
