Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE ELMER BROUGH May 17, 1914 - June 5, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence Elmer Brough of Flin Flon, MB, dearly beloved husband of Pearl, his wife of 61 years, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Lawrence died peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Pearl (nee Tremain) children, Rita Overland of Langley, BC, Dennis Overland of The Pas, MB, Beverly Harris (Allan) Gray of Winnipeg, MB, Bob (Debbie) Brough of Flin Flon, MB, Corinne (Bill) Gamble of Selkirk, MB, Melvin (Donnalee) Brough of St. Albert, AB and Ken (Janice) Brough of Flin Flon, MB; grandchildren, Glenn Overland, Lynda (Sean) McCallum, Nancy (Terry) Lucier, Richard Overland; Brent, Devin and Jocelyn Brough; Bill (Lisa), Tracey and Bryan Gamble; Adam, David, Scott and Shawn Brough; Tanner and Tasha Brough; great-grandchildren, Justin and Connor Lucier, Kate Gamble and Patrick McCallum. Predeceased by his parents, Mary and Sam Brough of Shellbrook, SK, Lawrence is survived by his brother Floyd (Edith) Trusty of Prince Albert, SK, sister Joyce Peters (nee Allen) of Chilliwack, BC, brother-in-law Bill (Mary) Tremain, sister-in-law Helen (Jack) Hollowell and special cousins Elsie Prosser and Doris Prosser all of Shellbrook, SK and many nieces and nephews. Lawrence and Pearl married February 15, 1941 and moved to Flin Flon later that same year. Job opportunities required him to be away from home for months at a time, freight-hauling over winter roads into the Northwest Territories and later diamond-drilling with Mid-West. In 1960, he purchased an insurance agency in order to be home with his wife and family. Lawrence was involved in a number of community sports and fraternal organizations. He was a volunteer with the Flin Flon Fire Department for 12 years, an Honorary Member of Legion Branch No. 73, member of Elks Lodge No. 232, member of North Star Rebekah Lodge No. 31, and a longtime member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 57. He was a Past Grand Master of the IOOF Manitoba and served as Grand Representative to the IOOF Sovereign Grand Lodge. A celebration of Lawrences life was held Monday, June 10 at St. Peters/St. James Anglican Church in Flin Flon with Rev. Ivan Church officiating. Son Ken delivered the eulogy. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private interment at a later date. At the familys request, flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Flin Flon General Hospital, Box 340, Flin Flon, MB, R8A 1N2 or to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Wong and Dr. Lezack and the 4th floor Unit 3 staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg and to Dr. Van Jaarsveldt and the 3rd floor staff of Flin Flon General Hospital for the excellent care Dad was given. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit and volunteers for all the help and support given to Mom and the rest of the family. We are truly blessed. Dadson Funeral Home in Flin Flon was entrusted with arrangements.
