IVAN HAROLD ROOT 1910-2002 On June 14, 2002 our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 91. Ivan was born in Emerson, MB, his family pioneered to the Wood Mountain / Kildeer, SK area, where he grew up. In 1941, he married Isabel Drinnan who was his partner and helpmate for 59 years until she died in January 2001. Ivan had an active career with United Grain Growers, first as an elevator manager in Assiniboia, SK, a travelling inspector and finally a coordinator of county services for Manitoba / Saskatchewan. Ivan had always been an active volunteer in the community. He was a Past Master of the Sturgeon Creek Masonic Lodge and past first Principal of the Royal Arch Masons. After retirement he joined the Shriners Oriental Band, Khartum Temple. Ivan was active in the United Church, serving as a board member and organizing the Sturgeon Creek over Sixties Club. He and Isabel belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for many years and were Past Patron and Past Matron of the St. James Chapter. They also volunteered at Oakview Extended Care for 25 years. In 1993, Ivan received the Governor General medal for good citizenry as well as honours for volunteering for the City of St. James. Ivan loved people and doing for others. He was a man of great determination and never gave up easily. Ivan was predeceased by his wife Isabel, his siblings, Ethel, Stan, Alice and Bill; and his grandson Shawn. He is fondly remembered by his children, David and Janice (Wai) grandchildren, Sheldon (and his mother Dawn), Megan and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jessica; as well as many other family members and friends. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., with reception and interment to follow.
