Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRY HALYK It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grand-father Harry Halyk on June 15, 2002, at his residence in Riverton, MB. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara; his children, Beverly (Charles), Ron (Olga), Shelly (Irvin), Maureen (Sid), Douglas (Laura), Wanda (Chris), Barry (Cathy), Leanne (Paul), Larry (Samantha) 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, He also leaves surviving his brother Ben (Anne) and sister Pauline, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Elsie (nee Koblun) who died in 1965; his parents, Paul and Jean Halyk; sister Anne; and brothers, Kerry and Charles. Dad was born on February 3, 1918 in Ledwyn, MB. He spent the first part of his life farming until "The Great Depression" in the 1930s forced him to ride the rails looking for work in the eastern provinces. He worked in various mines, the last ones being the Sherritt Gordon mines in Lynn Lake and Leaf Rapids. Since his retirement in 1984, Dad was an avid gardener who took great pride in caring for his beautiful garden. He will be missed by his two faithful companions, Brandi and Pookie, which he affectionately referred to as "My Babies". Another one of his loves was singing with his choir friends at church. Dad had a beautiful singing voice and never hesitated to sing us a song. He always loved to share stories of his life and just finished a book of his personal memoirs for each of us to enjoy. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Halyk, Bruce Romaniuk, Richard Bjornson, Shawn Bjornson, Doug Egesz, and Michael Furgala. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church, with Pastor Trudy Sluth and Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harrys name to Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church. As Dad always said to us.... "Safe Driving - No Breakdowns" We will love you forever. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
