FLORENCE SNOWDON Mrs. Florence Jane Snowdon, aged 99 years, resident of Central Park Lodge, Poseidon Bay Care Centre, Winnipeg, (formerly of Oak River, MB), passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, March 22, 2002. Florence was born in Alnwick, Northumberland, UK, and as a young girl came to Canada to live with the Ralph Snowdon Family on their farm near Oak River. Florence married John Snowdon, and they settled on their own farm nearby; were married for 59 years, and together they raised four children. Her family and home were her main interests; and she enjoyed copper tooling, artwork, crafts, needlework, and gardening. Florence loved music and singing, and no matter how tough the situation, she would manage to break into a song or hum a tune. After her husbands death in 1980, Florence moved to live in Winnipeg with her daughter Daisy. Illness forced her to take up residence at the Poseidon Bay Care Centre in January, 1999. Florence is survived by her three daughters, Muriel and Daisy Snowdon, and Connie Cyster (all of Medicine Hat, AB) one son Keith of Thunder Bay, ON. Also surviving is one sister Grace Gibbard, and one brother Capt. John Elliott, both of Northumberland, UK; as well as four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Florence was predeceased by her husband John in 1980; two sisters; two brothers; and other relatives. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service for Florence Snowdon will be held on Tuesday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oak River Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Thomas N. Delgary. A memorial reception will follow in the Common Room of the Oakdale Home in Oak River. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota, in care of arrangements.
