DOREEN LABEY Suddenly on June 17, 2002, Viola Doreen Labey (nee Linklater) passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Doreen was born March 8, 1923 at Portage la Prairie, MB. She spent most of her childhood at Jack Fish Lake, a small community near Grand Marais, MB. As an adult, Doreen moved to Lethbridge, AB where she met and married her first husband, Peter Miechkota. Peter passed away when the children were very young. Doreen then moved back to Manitoba where her parents lived. In 1971, Doreen met and married Don Labey. She spent most of her life in Winnipeg except for 12 years, 1973 to 1985, that she and her husband Don Labey lived in Calgary. In Calgary, Doreen worked in the health care field. While in Calgary, Doreen took a few art and calligraphy lessons which enhanced the artistic talent that she was born with. She spent the last 29 years of her life engrossed in her various works of art - paintings, drawings, calligraphy and poetry. Besides her artistic talents, Doreen was also very good at crocheting and knitting and she was a wonderful cook. Doreen was predeceased by her first husband Peter Miechkota; her parents, Frank and Lina Linklater; and her brother Clifford Dempsey Linklater. Doreen will be sadly missed by her husband Don Labey; her three children, Elaine (Don) Chadney, Cheryl Shirtliffe and Stephen Miechkota; and numerous grandchildren. A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 20 at 4:00 p.m. at Jack Fish Lake Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
