DR. RODOLFO MONTERAS NARVAS June 2, 1934 - June 15, 2002 Dr. Rodolfo Narvas passed away peacefully on June 15, 2002, at the age of 68, with his family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital. He was born June 2, 1934 in Mogpog, Marinduque, Philippines, one of eight children to Manuel and Modesta Narvas. Rodolfo had a long, dedicated history as a physician. He graduated from medical school at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines in 1957. Then made a long journey from his parents coconut plantation to New York for three years of internship at the Binghamton General Hospital. He did his Residency in Pathology at the Allentown Hospital in Pennsylvania, then his Residency in Internal Medicine at the Charles Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY for two years. In 1970, Rodolfo achieved a Fellowship in Cardiology at the Maimonides Medical Centre in Brooklyn, NY. He furthered his accomplishments throughout the years including being one of a few Canadians awarded the Diplomate in Cardiology. Rodolfo was dedicated to all his patients and thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff at the Grace Hospital (25 years), Winnipeg Clinic (33 years), Health Sciences Centre and the former Deer Lodge Hospital. He also enjoyed teaching the practice as a Lecturer at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine. Rodolfo loved to travel with his family, fishing with his friends, and getting together with his compadres on Saturday evenings. As one of only a handful of Filipinos to live in Winnipeg in 1966, he remained devoted to his homeland, the Philippines, and enjoyed interacting with the Filipino community, taking part in community activities as well as taking his children to his birthplace in Marinduque on numerous occasions to ensure they were aware of their heritage. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 31 years, Dalisay; his two sons, David and Rudy Jr.; his daughter Melissa and son-in-law Jessie Joaquin; his sisters and their spouses, Zenaida and Jose, Teresita and Emilio; his brothers and their spouses, Ricardo and Mona, Jaime and Violeta, Ruben, Manuel Jr. and Illuminada; his nephews and nieces, Veanne, Jessica, Melodie, Pearl and Ricky, Sheila and Freddie, Marc and Mai; Don, Michael, Roderick (Calgary) Don, Tonette, Lizette, Bart, Ritchie, Rica, Anthony (Philippines) his numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their children. The family would like to extend many thanks to the staff at MICU, CCU and the Dialysis Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for caring of Rodolfo and to the many close friends, colleagues and former patients that have shown their unwavering support and friendship to Rodolfo in the last year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Boniface Research Foundation or to the Kidney Foundation.
