ERNA GASPER Peacefully on May 17, 2002, at the Ashern Personal Care Home, Erna Gasper aged 87 years of Ashern, MB. Erna was born in the Ukraine on January 28, 1915. She married Florian and farmed in the Dog Lake area from 1934 to 1963. They moved to Winnipeg where Erna was a cook at the Fort Garry Hotel for four years and then worked at the Health Sciences Centre, also as a dietitian cook, until her retirement in 1980. Erna loved to travel. She also loved to care for her plants and flowers. In 1996 Erna became ill and moved to Ashern to live with her son Fred and Bonnie. Later, she was moved to Eriksdale Personal Care Home and on October 31, 2001 she moved to the Ashern Personal Care Home. She is survived by one son, Fred (Bonnie) grandson Kevin (Cathy) nephew Otto Stangle (Edna) of Calgary; niece Erna of New York and special friend Marion Schwitek of Winnipeg. Erna was predeceased by her adoptive parents and her husband Florian on November 16, 1983. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22 at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Ashern, MB with Rev. Donna J. Smalley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Runa Mangl, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 "to be used in the Ashern Personal Care Home". Special thanks to Eriksdale Personal Care Home for the kindness and care and to Dr. Berrow and the Ashern Personal Care Home staff for their concern and loving care.
