Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGERY DAWN HOWARD (nee DENBOW) Prairie bride, lover of wildflowers, and much-loved wife, mother and teacher, passed away June 10, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer in Vancouver, BC. Dawn is survived by her husband Charlie; children, Courtney, Trevor and Kelsey, North Vancouver, BC; mother Bertha Denbow, Souris, MB; sister Gail Watson (Lyle) and family Jody and Lori, Winnipeg, MB. She will also be missed by in-laws, Nora and Charles Howard, Victoria, BC, brother-in-law Paddy Howard (Susan) and family, Michael and Jeanine, also of Victoria, BC; aunts Ivy (Don) Morris, Joan Phillips of Souris, MB, and Alma McCarvill, Winnipeg, MB; and by numerous cousins and their families. She was predeceased by her father Reuben. Dawn grew up on the family farm in the Bethel community and received her education at Deleau Consolidated School. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and became a teacher, first at Charleswood High School, Winnipeg, MB, then Sir John Franklin School in Yellowknife, NWT. Following her marriage to Charlie they moved to Vancouver and Dawn continued to teach Home Economics at North Delta High School until their first child was born. When she returned to teaching, it was as a resource teacher at Churchill Secondary School in Vancouver, BC. Dawn was a kind and thoughtful person who greatly admired the details of nature like the big prairie sky, the majestic mountains, the crystal blue of a stream, or the smell of freshly mowed hay. As a child she was regularly found riding her horse, Flicka, through the waving brome grass, working on the farm, or curled up reading a book. During these years she was involved as a 4-H member taking both Clothing and Beef Cattle projects and was known as the catcher for the Souris Girls Softball team. Dawn was always a hard worker, but balanced that with finding time for her love of reading and a good book. She was a great cook and loved trying new recipes on her family and friends. Dawn was a devoted mother and wife and took great pride and interest in the activities of her family and was always there with love and encouragement. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
