ROSS MacKENZIE Suddenly on Thursday, June 20, 2002, Cameron Ross Alexander MacKenzie, beloved husband of Lois MacKenzie of Balmoral, MB. Predeceased by his father Alex in 1990. Ross is lovingly remembered by his wife Lois; mother Vivian; daughters, Shari (Dave), Roshelle; grandson Cameron; mother and father-in-law, Edna and Lloyd Fines; aunts, Jean Mazur, Evelyn Holloway, uncle Cameron; brothers-in-law, Gordon (Linda) Fines, Greg Fines; special friend Ken Loehmer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ross was born July 18, 1946. He was educated in Balmoral and Stonewall. In 1963 he won the Manitoba High School Curling Championship. Upon graduation he moved to Carbondale, IL on scholarship where he received a business degree at the University of Southern Illinois. While attending university Ross excelled at running track. He was a member of the All American Track and Field Team for two years, ran in the British Empire Games in Jamaica in 1966, in the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg in 1967, and he advanced to the semi-finals in the 440 in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. He was inducted into the Southern Illinois Saluki Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Upon returning to Manitoba after graduation, Ross joined his Dad in the family business. He was on the executive of the Canadian Funeral Directors Association, a past president of the Manitoba Funeral Directors Association and member of the Canadian Independent Group of Funeral Homes. He was a Mason and a Shriner. In 1969 he married Lois Fines and they lived and raised their daughters in Balmoral. He remained interested in sports, playing baseball with the Balmoral Orioles and curling. Ross took great pleasure in hunting, from caribou to quail. His love of hunting was inspired by his Dad. During his spare time, between hunting seasons, he enjoyed farming, and his ostriches and black angus cattle, and flying his airplane. Prayers will be held on Monday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Rev. Mary Best will officiate. Pallbearers will be Reg Main, Cole Campbell, Brian Jamieson, Gordon Fines, Greg Fines, Leonard McKnight. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of ones choice.
