ELMER HAROLD (FUZZ) HARRISON It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Harold Harrison on June 21, 2002, at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency. With wonderful memories we say goodbye to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. His parents, Wesley and Elizabeth Harrison and older brother Roy predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; son Kevin (Evelyne) granddaughter Kristi (Tim) grandson Jeffrey (Jennifer) stepgranddaughters, Heather and Bonnie (Chris) great-grandsons, Malcolm and Justin; sister Elva Miller (Len). Harold was born on April 21, 1920 in Carman. The family subsequently moved to Winnipeg, Elm Creek and Starbuck, where they operated a general retail business. After completing high school, he joined the R.C.N.V.R. in 1939 where he served until 1945 as a wireless telegrapher on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, ultimately attaining the rank of Petty Officer. Harold and Phyllis Thompson of Belmont were married April 21, 1944. At the close of the war they moved to Belmont where he joined his father and brother in the Harrisons store business. Harold and Phyllis moved to Brandon in 1967. He was employed by the Codville Company and travelled western Manitoba calling on their IGA stores for several years. Changing careers, he joined the staff of Donovan and Stone as an apprenticing accountant at age 50 and subsequently became Assistant Secretary Treasurer of Brandon School Division No. 40 where he remained until his retirement in 1986. While in Brandon he was also Secretary Treasurer of Western Manitoba Regional Library Board. His retirement years were spent in Winnipeg happily spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Phyllis enjoyed many wonderful trips and wintered both in Florida and Victoria. Harold was a member of Strathcona Lodge 117 A.F. & A.M. rising through the chairs to Master, and as a member of the Belmont Odd Fellows Lodge he worked to improve conditions at Hillside Cemetery. He served on the Belmont United Church Board of Stewards for many years. He loved acting and as a member of the "Belmont Boardtreaders" was awarded the Free Press trophy for Best Actor in 1954 at the Pembina Valley Festival. Summers were spent sailing on Pelican Lake where he was a Charter Member of the Pelican Lake Yacht Club serving as Commodore for a term. Harolds warmth and generosity coupled with a great zest for life will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains. For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
