DIAN NANCY ANN LAUTERER (nee ASHBY) She struggled in pain for months. Dian wanted to live. In the end, the hurt was too great and we prayed together for Gods final solution and it was granted on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. She was 59 years of age. Dian is survived by her husband Phillip of 39 years of marriage; daughters, Phyllis, Ann-Marie Chapel, Margaret and Elizabeth Elcheshen; and son Philip "Bill", of Winnipeg; her mother Mary Ashby; brother Charles; and sister Eleanor of Alberta; and seven grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father Lewis Fredrick. As Dian was growing up, she lived in many locations in western Canada. She enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in 1961 and was a Flight Control Operator at Foymount, ON where she met her Phillip. They were married in 1963 and lived in many more locations throughout Canada. Dian was a loving mother to her children and while living at Boyd Corner, NB, she was referred to as the Road Runner as she drove local children and her own back and forth to community functions. After moving to Winnipeg she was employed as a postal clerk by Canada Post. Dian injured her shoulder at work and could not hold her arms at or above shoulder level without pain. She left the Post Office and started gardening in her yard. You often would see her sitting on the ground working the soil or pulling weeds. Dian had a zeal for computers. While at Canada Post she had been asked on more than one occasion to crack a password that was preventing them from working. She became a regular on the Canadian Gardening Forum and created a HTML learning website for the members. Dian never did have any computer training and all that she did was self taught; in this her achievement was monumental. A private family funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojciks All Beliefs & Faiths Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave. at Sharp Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Dians memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
