ELINOR McLEOD (nee OSBORNE) September 15, 1907 - June 20, 2002 Suddenly and peacefully at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall, MB, Elinor McLeod passed away at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Philip Volney in 1983. Elinor was born at the family farm known as Strathewan Post Office close to Argyle. She attended Brant School and transferred to Brant Argyle School when it opened in 1914. She taught piano in her early years before working for Eatons mail order in Winnipeg and Vancouver. She and Philip were married on May 21, 1941 in Winnipeg and took up residence in Fort William, ON where P.V. worked for the CPR. Their only child John was born in 1943. They returned to Argyle in 1946 and took over the family farm. They farmed together for many years, and along with John and Elaine in later years, until the retired in 1980. After Dads passing she moved to Stonewall Place and resided there from February 1984 until March 2002 when she moved to Rosewood Lodge. While slight of size she had a deep reserve of determination and will power that carried her through several health crises in the last few years. Her real passion was her love for her two granddaughters, Christine and Erin. A natural talent with plants, love of birds and large repertoire of Celtic jigs and reels that she played by ear occupied her spare time. Her clearness of mind, interest and curiosity in the world around her contributed to her immense enjoyment of life. Mom leaves to mourn her son John, daughter-in-law Elaine and Erin of Bowen Island, BC, and Christine Grundy (Neil) and her first great-grandson Jack of North Vancouver, BC (born last week) and sister-in-law Norma Hogg of Stonewall and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret, father William, sisters, Mae, Annie, and Jessie; and brother Jim. Prayers were offered at the crematorium on June 24. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Anglican Church of the Ascension in Stonewall, Rev. Karen Binding officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot in Stonewall cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Stonewall Anglican Church Building Fund or to Stonewood Place if they so desire. A special thank you to all of her friends and caregivers in Stonewood and Rosewood who made her 19 years of residence such a pleasure. Mom will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends. She made a difference. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
