CECIL GEORGE WILLIAM DAWKINS Peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2002, Cecil Dawkins, aged 75, passed away at Victoria General Hospital. Born in Winnipeg, he spent his high school years in Calgary. After graduation, he worked for the Toronto Dominion Bank for 20 years for a number of branches throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He also worked 20 years for the Manitoba Department of Education in Winnipeg as departmental accountant, retiring in 1986. A longtime member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves, he served with the 39th Field Regiment RCA, the 5th Intelligence Company and the 17th Winnipeg Service Battalion, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired as Service Battalion commanding officer in 1977. He later served as Honorary Lt. Colonel of the unit and remained involved for the rest of his life. For 48 years, he was a proud member of the Freemasons, holding the rank of Very Worshipful Brother. He was a Past Master of Gateway Lodge No. 171 and Millennium Lodge No. 182. He was treasurer of both lodges. In 1997, he was appointed chairman of the Freemasons Flood Relief Fund, administering close to $50,000 to worthy families in the Red River Valley stricken by the flood. Cec was also active with the Royal Canadian Legion and the United Services Institute. He was a longtime member of the Norwood United Church, which he recently served as treasurer. Cec is survived by his loving wife Bev, sons, Fred (Ruth) of Vancouver, James (Kim), Glen (Joan), Rob (Dolores), Rick and Jamie of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Ian, Caitlin, Elizabeth, Robert, Courtney and Karyn. Also mourning his passing are Micheline Brodeur of Vancouver and Patricia Giesbrecht. He was predeceased by first wife Jean and daughter Linda. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 26, at 7:00 p.m., at Norwood United Church. A reception will follow at the church. The family sends special thanks to Dr. Scott Young, Dr. M. Verrellie, Dr. J. Tanner, the staff of Victoria Hospital ER ad 5th floor. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Cec may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, Kinsmen Reh-Fit Centre or a charity of your choice.
