MAUDE KEMP September 23, 1907 - June 21, 2002 Peacefully, Aunt Maude passed away on June 21, 2002 at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg. The third child of John and Harriet Agnes Kemp, she was born in Mather, MB and attended Rock Lake School. She is survived by her sister-in-law Thelma Kemp (Mather) nieces, Agnes Moore (Glenboro), Marlyne Bramwell (Cartwright), Bernice (Kyle) Trembath (Teulon), Hilda (Ken) Fenton (Gillam), Olive (Craig) Maxwell (Lac du Bonnet), Ann (Fred) Kemp-Mitchell (Didsbury, AB) and families; along with numerous cousins in England. Maude was predeceased by her parents, John and Harriet Agnes; her brothers, Will and Stanley; and her sister Edith Brown. Auntie Maude spent much of her working days at Woolworths in Winnipeg, working 28 years as a pastry cook. Auntie Maudes talent as a pastry cook was always greatly appreciated by family and friends, as there was always tarts, cookies, and Christmas cakes to enjoy. In the late 1950s, Auntie Maude moved in to reside with her parents, as they were ailing, and remained there until December 12, 2001 when her own health began to fail and she was hospitalized. Nurses, homecare workers, family and friends made it possible for Auntie to remain in her home and enjoy it until the age of 94. Upon retiring, Auntie enjoyed travelling spending time with family in England. She also enjoyed taking seniors tours which allowed her to travel throughout Canada and the United States. In addition, Auntie enjoyed going to theatre events, such as Rainbow Stage and productions at the Prairie Theatre Exchange. Much of her spare time was spent gardening, crocheting, and visiting with friends and family. No visit went by without a quick game of cards. Auntie was involved in the community through the church and volunteering activities. She was a lifetime member of the St. Stephens of Broadway Church (now Broadway Disciples United) and had fond memories of the many picnics and special events held there. As well, Auntie spent many hours at personal care homes throughout the city, volunteering her time to brighten someones day. The Province of Manitoba recognized her for these efforts, as she received a certificate commending her. Auntie will always be remembered for her love of her family and friends and her passion for hats. A celebration of Aunties life will take place on Wednesday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m., in the Broadway Disciples United Church, 396 Broadway with Reverend Ray Cuthbert officiating, with interment to follow in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Kyle Trembath, Craig Maxwell, Gerald Trembath, Jason Scott, Nolan Trembath, and Bradley Maxwell. Honourary pallbearers are special friends Eileen Osborne, Gerry Caul, Annette Chyzy and Lucille Gervais, as well as those in attendance and those whose thoughts are with Auntie today. In days we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away Our hearts were nearly broken, You fought so hard to stay. God looked around his garden, And found an empty space, Then He looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 232 Kennedy Street 949-4878
