JANE ANN KELLY January 27, 1903 - June 23, 2002 Jane Ann Kelly peacefully passed on, June 23, 2002, at the Souris Personal Care Home, with her family at her side. She is survived by her daughter Carol; son-in-law Jim; grandsons, Jim (Perla), John (Gloria), and Mark. A memorial service will be held from Faith Community Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Oddie officiating. Born in Leeds, England, and raised in Galashiels, Scotland, Mom began work at 13 years of age. She held many jobs, from rolling cigars, making chocolates, doing water painting at a photography studio, to working at the York Post Office and in the box office of the musical theatre in York. For years she enjoyed working as the receptionist at the Castle Museum there. Mom met Dad during the war. At 44, her only child Carol was born. At the age of 50, Mom left everything she had ever loved and known in England to start a new life with Dad in Canada. In Winnipeg, shed worked for the Community Chest and later at the Medical Diagnostic Centre. Mom taught herself to be a medical receptionist. When her daughter married Jim Turner, the joys of her life arrived. Her grandsons, Jim, John, and Mark were hers to cherish. Mom loved flowers and music, especially singing hymns. She painted with oils and did exquisite embroidery. Until her last two weeks, she continued to knit and crochet. Mom was predeceased by her three loving brothers and her husband. She lived in her home in Winnipeg until she was 95, due to the caring help from her sister-in-law Ella Welsh, her niece Elizabeth, and her nephew Ernest, her church family at St. Phillips Anglican Church, and the kind neighbours who watched over her. When she broke her hip, she was moved to Souris Hospital and later to the Personal Care Home, to be near her daughter and family. We were so blessed to have such wonderful care of Mom in Souris. Mom missed her home and was not always happy to be away from it, but the staff was loving and kind to her. We could not have asked for better care. Even though her child was born so late in her life, Mom was able to see her grandsons grow up, and to enjoy her four beautiful great-grandchildren. As a child in England, she memorized John 14 at school. She never forgot it. "In my Fathers house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
