Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAYMOND GEORGE HITCHCOCK Raymond George Hitchcock passed away on June 21, 2002, at Fred Douglas Lodge. He is survived by his sister, Violet. Ray was born October 22, 1919, in Winnipeg, the son of George and Catherine. He and his older sister, Violet (Vi), grew up in the family home, initially on Inkster Blvd., then Atlantic Avenue, where Ray lived until poor health necessitated a move to Fred Douglas Lodge a few years ago. Like many of his generation, Ray was called to serve his country in time of war. He joined the Regina Rifles in early 1942, remaining with the Regiment until he was honourably discharged in 1946. He served in Alaska, Normandy, and other battlefields in the European theatre. When Ray was discharged, he joined the Public Service of Canada, working as a federal civil servant for 35 years, retiring in 1982. The latter part of his career was spent with the Board of Grain Commissioners. Ray was a quiet, gentle person. He loved to read, especially local history. He loved to laugh, and had an infectious sense of humour. Vi would like to thank the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge (Maple Ward), the Office of the Public Trustee, and Cropo Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, June 27 at 4:45 p.m. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
