ERNA VITINS (nee PUPURS) On Saturday, June 22, 2002 in the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Erna Vitins passed away. Erna was predeceased by her husband; three brothers; sister and her family. She leaves some relatives in Latvia, Russia, Australia, many friends in ASV, Canada. She will be especially remembered by the Latvian Society of Winnipeg and anyone who had met her. May she rest in peace. She was born October 26, 1904 in Lubana, Latvia, where she got her education and worked as a teacher for 18 years. In 1944 with her husband (late Alfred Vitins) she left Latvia, lived in Germany and England for a few years before coming to Canada. Her husband got a job as an agrologist in Morden Research Farm. Soon they joined the Latvian Society in Winnipeg and became the members of the Latvian Holy Cross Church. In 1971, when Alfred retired, they moved to Winnipeg and continued to be very active until 1985, when Erna and Alfred had to move into Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, where Alfred died in 1989. The funeral service to celebrate Ernas life will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel 1858 Portage Ave., with Rev. Dr. Egil Grislis officiating. Interment will take place in Lee River Cemetery, beside her loving husband Alfred. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired donations may be made in memory of Erna Vitins to the Museum of Occupation in Latvia (c/o Mr. O. Radovskis 97 Lennox Ave. Winnipeg, MB R2M 1B1), or to a charity of ones choice.
