MICHAEL CHANAS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and gigi at the age of 87 years at the Tudor Home on June 26, 2002. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Stella; and his children and grandchildren, Sandra (Les) Gushta, Jay and Amber; Lloyd (Marlaine), Shannon, Lloydiene and Curt; Donna (Terry) Fitkowski, Rhonda and Rodney; Kristine Chanas (Blake), Shireen, Courtney and Derrick; Barb Chanas (Brad), Conner; Leanne (Enio) Pippo, Adel and Cole; great-grandchildren, Coral, Brayden, Bryce and Shailee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother; sister Mary; and stepbrother Nick. Mike immigrated from Poland in 1923 and settled on the family farm in Libau where he met and married Stella Hunnie in 1948. Besides farming he worked for Hydro, Dominion Bridge and was employed with MRM for 17 years when he retired in 1979. He then moved to Selkirk in 1995. Prayers will be held on Friday (tonight) June 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the the St. Johns Ukrainian Catholic Church, Poplar Park, MB, with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. Interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery. His pallbearers will be Rodney Fitkowski, Jay Gushta, Curt Chanas, Don Boulton, Ron Hunnie and David Phil. Special thanks to Dr. Demsas and the staff at Tudor House. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Mikes memory can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
