GLADYS EVELYN WATERS Gladys Evelyn Waters, born June 2, 1923, died June 27, 2002 at Neepawa District Hospital surrounded by her loving family and her pastor Joe Ball of the United Church of Neepawa. This caring woman who graced all of us with her gentle and sweet nature was born Gladys Evelyn McCullough in Kenville, MB and often recounted an innocent and happy childhood with her mother and father and sister Vera and brother Charlie. She was married to Charles Coutts Middleton in 1942 and bore two sons, Glen Coutts Middleton and Bruce Charles Middleton. Widowed in 1948, Gladys and her children lived with her brother Charles McCullough at Mentmore, MB. In 1952 Gladys and her family moved to Neepawa to reside with her mother and eventually she took a position with the Neepawa Post Office, a job she was to hold for 23 years. Not long after moving to Neepawa, Gladys was literally swept off her feet at a dance at the Odd Fellow Hall, by Jack Waters, her beloved companion, husband and friend for the rest of her life. Gladys and Jack travelled extensively, visiting friends, family and following their own sense of adventure across Canada many times, throughout the United States and Hawaii and overseas to Scotland and England. Predeceased by her mother, father, brother Charles McCullough and sister and brother-in-law, Isabella and Harold Cleland, Gladys is survived by her husband Jack Waters; sons, Glen Middleton (Meg), Bruce Middleton (Deborah) sister Vera Hockin (Elmer) special sister-in-law Margaret Salter and husband Mib. Grandchildren, Christopher, Nadine, Shannon and Haley; twin great-granddaughters, Danielle and Kimberley, great-granddaughter, Frances Zoe; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families of whom she was inordinately proud. Active in community life, Gladys was so full of pride for her hometown of Neepawa. She loved her shuffleboard at the Drop In Centre and her exercise classes with her group of special friends at the Elks Manor. She was a longtime member of the Neepawa U.C.W. and the Neepawa Health Auxiliary. Gladyss grateful family would like to thank the many health care professionals and palliative care workers who made her last difficult months so much easier to bear with their kind, compassionate care. Funeral service will be held at the Neepawa United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Neepawa United Church Building Fund or The Neepawa District Hospital. Whites Funeral Home, Neepawa in care of arrangements.
