DR. JOHN GERALD FOX On July 1, 2002, we said goodbye to our father. Dad was predeceased by our mother Shirley Anne Gompert and leaves to mourn his daughters, Gerri Hildebrand, son-in-law Ron and grandson Paul; Colleen Thiessen, son-in-law Klaus, grandson Michael and granddaughter Stephanie; Nancy Lorenz, son-in-law Richard and grandson Bradley of St. Lois, MO; as well as Carol Fox-Good, grandson Christopher of Austin, TX and sister Eleanor Gabrielle Fox. Dad received his medical degree in 1949 from the University of Manitoba followed by a senior internship at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles. He received his certificate in General Pathology in 1957 and a Diploma in Bacteriology from the University of Toronto in 1962. He obtained his F.R.C.P. (C) in General Pathology in 1972. During his tenure as Director of the Cadham Public Health Laboratory, he was involved in pioneering neonatal screening in Manitoba, a program which went on to become one of the most comprehensive in the country. In addition to his professional accomplishments, our father would not hesitate to say that his most gratifying lifetime achievement was his family. We have been blessed by his devotion and love. The family is grateful for the care and compassion of all staff at St. Boniface Hospital (6A South Medicine). Special mention goes to Dr. Cook, RN Doris and health care worker Robert. Family friend Sharon Donaldson also helped see the family through a very difficult time. Companion Jean will also fondly remember Dad. A memorial service will be held on Friday July 5 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Johns Cathedral, 135 Anderson.
